Questions & Answers about Какого числа приём у врача?
Why is it Какого числа in the Genitive case instead of the Nominative Какое число?
When asking "On what date?" or "What date is..." for a specific event, Russian uses the Genitive case. You can think of it literally as asking "Of what date is the appointment?". If you just wanted to ask "What is today's date?" without linking it to an event, you would use the Nominative: Какое сегодня число?
How is the word Какого pronounced here?
In Russian, the Genitive adjective endings -ого and -его are pronounced with a "v" sound instead of a "g" sound. Because of this rule and vowel reduction, Какого is pronounced like "ka-KO-va".
Why is the word for doctor (врач) in the form врача?
It follows the preposition у, which always requires the Genitive case. The phrase у врача literally translates to "at the doctor's" or "by the doctor".
Can I use the word приём for any type of appointment?
Приём (literally "reception") is specifically used for professional visits or official appointments, like seeing a doctor, dentist, or government official. If you are scheduling a meeting with a friend or colleague, you would use the word встреча (meeting) instead.
