Questions & Answers about Кто она? Она врач.
Why do we use кто here instead of что?
The word кто means "who" and is used to ask about animate nouns, which means people and animals. Что means "what" and is used for inanimate objects or ideas. Since we are asking about a person (она - she), we must use кто.
Where is the word for "is" in Кто она? and Она врач.?
In Russian, the present tense of the verb "to be" (am, is, are) is almost always skipped. You simply put the subject and the noun together. So, Кто она? literally translates to "Who she?" and Она врач literally translates to "She doctor".
Why isn't there a word for "a" before врач?
Russian does not have articles like "a", "an", or "the". A single word like врач can mean "doctor", "a doctor", or "the doctor" depending on the context of the conversation.
Since она (she) is feminine, shouldn't врач have a feminine ending?
