The inclusive quantifier 'both' (оба, обе)

In Russian, the word for "both" has two base forms: оба for masculine and neuter nouns, and обе for feminine nouns. In the oblique cases (any case other than the Nominative), they take standard plural adjective endings.

The only difference between the genders is their stem vowel:

  • Masculine and neuter forms use the stem обо-.
  • Feminine forms use the stem обе-.

The Genitive and Prepositional cases share the ending -их (обоих, обеих).
