Fiz análises na semana passada.

Questions & Answers about Fiz análises na semana passada.

Why is fiz used here instead of a translation for "had"?
In English, we say "I had tests done," where someone else does the action for you. In Portuguese, you simply use the active verb and say that you "did" the tests yourself. That is why we use fiz, the past tense of fazer (to do/make), rather than a translation of the verb "to have".
Can I use the word testes instead of análises?
Usually, no. In Portuguese, análises specifically refers to medical lab tests, most commonly blood work (análises ao sangue). The word testes is used for school exams, driving tests, or testing equipment, but rarely for routine medical lab work.
Why is there a na before semana passada?
English speakers just say "last week," but in Portuguese, you literally say "in the last week." The word na is a contraction of the preposition em (in) and the feminine article a (the). Time expressions using passada (past) or próxima (next) almost always require this contraction.
