Questions & Answers about Oczywiście, że pomogę.
Why is there a że (that) in this sentence? English just says 'Of course I will help.'
In Polish, strong expressions of certainty, opinion, or emotion like oczywiście (of course), jasne (sure), or szkoda (it's a pity) are usually connected to the action using the word że. While English leaves it out, Polish literally says 'Of course that I will help.'
How do we know who is helping if there is no word for 'I'?
Polish frequently drops subject pronouns like ja (I) because the verb ending already tells you exactly who is acting. The -ę ending on pomogę specifically means 'I'. Adding ja here would sound unnaturally emphatic, as if saying 'Of course I will help (even if someone else won't).'
Why doesn't this use będę to make the future tense?
Pomóc (to help) is a perfective verb, meaning it describes a completed, one-time action. In Polish, when you put a perfective verb into a present-tense conjugation pattern (which gives us pomogę), it automatically creates the future tense. You only use the helper word będę with imperfective verbs.
What is the imperfective version of this verb, and why aren't we using it here?
The imperfective partner is pomagać. You would use its future tense (będę pomagać) only if you meant 'I will be helping' as an ongoing, continuous process or a regular habit. Because the speaker is offering a single, complete act of assistance, the perfective pomogę is the natural choice.
