Questions & Answers about Im większe nasłonecznienie, tym więcej energii wytwarzamy.
Wait, I thought this lesson was about "w zależności od" (depending on). Why does this sentence use "im..., tym..." instead?
Both structures express dependency. While w zależności od explicitly says "depending on", the im ..., tym ... structure shows a proportional dependency, meaning "the [greater]..., the [more]...". It is a natural alternative when you want to show exactly how the amount of one thing directly affects another.
Why is "energia" in the genitive case here as "energii"?
This is because of the quantifier więcej (more). In Polish, words expressing a quantity or amount force the following noun into the genitive case. So literally, you are saying "more of energy".
Does the im ..., tym ... structure require the two halves of the sentence to match grammatically?
No, the structure itself does not force the two halves to match in case or gender. In the first half, większe is neuter nominative to match the noun nasłonecznienie (sunlight). In the second half, więcej acts as a quantifier affecting energii. They operate entirely independently within their own clauses.
What is the difference between tworzymy and wytwarzamy in the context of energy?
The base verb tworzyć means to create or make something generally, like art, a team, or a concept. By adding the prefix wy-, the verb wytwarzać takes on the meaning of manufacturing, generating, or producing a physical or measurable output, which is the standard verb to use for generating electricity or energy.
