こちら, そちら, あちらら and どちら all have forms that are more casual and informal. These are こっち, そっち, あっち and どっち respectively. The only difference is the level of formality and politeness. The meanings of the words are exactly identical.

| That jacket over there is expensive. | あっち の 上着 は 高い。atchi no uwagi wa takai. |
| Don't go that way (over there). | あっち に 行かないで。atchi ni ikanaide. |
| Which coat do you like? | どっち の 上着 が 好き？dotchi no uwagi ga suki? |
| Which one is heavier? | どっち の 方 が 重い？dotchi no hou ga omoi? |
| Which way is the station? | 駅 は どっち です か。eki wa dotchi desu ka. |
| Which one is Ms. Tanaka? | どっち が 田中さん です か？dotchi ga tanakasan desu ka? |
