Questions & Answers about Krećemo rano.
Because the verb form already tells you the subject.
In krećemo, the ending -mo means we. Serbian often leaves out subject pronouns when they are obvious from the verb.
So:
- krećem = I set off / I am leaving
- krećeš = you set off / you are leaving
- krećemo = we set off / we are leaving
You can still add mi for emphasis or contrast:
- Mi krećemo rano, a oni kasnije.
We are leaving early, and they are leaving later.
The form krećemo is the 1st person plural present tense form of kretati or, in many contexts, the verb pair kretati / krenuti.
A useful way to think about it is:
- kretati = imperfective, ongoing/repeated/general
- krenuti = perfective, to start off / set off once
In everyday speech, krećemo is very natural for we are leaving / setting off.
Formally, it is present tense.
But in Serbian, present-tense forms can often be used for a planned or arranged future, especially with imperfective verbs and when the context is clear.
