What does zapłacę mean grammatically?
Zapłacę is the 1st person singular form of the verb zapłacić.
So it means:
- I will pay
- I’ll pay
A key point is that zapłacić is perfective, so this form refers to the future, not the present. In Polish, perfective verbs do not normally have a true present-tense meaning.
Why is there no ja in the sentence?
Because Polish often omits subject pronouns when they are clear from the verb ending.
The ending -ę in zapłacę already tells you the subject is I.
So:
- Zapłacę dziewięć rachunków = I will pay nine bills
- Ja zapłacę dziewięć rachunków = also correct, but now ja adds emphasis, like I will pay them
English usually needs the pronoun, but Polish often does not.
