Questions & Answers about क्या मैं आपकी मदद कर सकती हूँ, या आप वहाँ जा सकती हैं?
At the start of a sentence, क्या often marks a yes/no question in Hindi.
English usually shows this by changing word order, as in Can I help you? Hindi usually does not need that kind of inversion. Instead, it can keep the normal order and use क्या and/or question intonation.
So:
- मैं आपकी मदद कर सकती हूँ। = a statement
- क्या मैं आपकी मदद कर सकती हूँ? = a question
In this sentence, the opening क्या applies to the whole question, including both alternatives joined by या.
Because मदद करना is a very common Hindi expression meaning to help. Literally, it is closer to to do someone’s help than to the English structure help someone.
That is why Hindi often uses a possessive/genitive form:
- मेरी मदद करो = help me
- उसकी मदद कीजिए = help him/her
- आपकी मदद कर सकती हूँ = I can help you
So आपकी does not mean your in a strongly literal English sense here. It is just the normal Hindi pattern with मदद करना.
