Why is it bogen and not den bog?
In Danish, the definite article is often added to the end of the noun instead of being a separate word in front.
- bog = book
- bogen = the book
This is very common in Danish:
- bil → bilen = the car
- stol → stolen = the chair
So bogen simply means the book.
You can sometimes use den/det/de before a noun, but usually that is when an adjective is also present, for example:
- den røde bog = the red book
Without an adjective, bogen is the normal form.
Why is it reolen?
For the same reason as bogen: Danish usually marks definiteness by attaching it to the noun.
