Indefinite choice phrases (n'importe...)

To talk about spontaneous travel, let's first look at the verb prévoir (to plan) and the noun la destination (the destination).

We never want to plan our destination.
Nous ne voulons jamais prévoir notre destination.

Expressing Complete Flexibility

To say "anytime," "anywhere," "anything," or "anyone," French uses n'importe (literally "it doesn't matter") combined with a question word.

Use n'importe quand (anytime) and n'importe quoi (anything) when you like to improviser (to improvise) your plans.

Vous pouvez acheter le billet n'importe quand.
I prefer to improvise and eat anything.
Je préfère improviser et manger n'importe quoi.

Anywhere and Anyone

To escape the daily grind, use the reflexive verb s'évader (to get away). Of course, this often requires managing le budget (the budget).

You need a good budget to get away often.
Il faut un bon budget pour s'évader souvent.

When looking for a place to stay (le logement), you might decide you are happy to go n'importe où (anywhere).

To get away, we can go anywhere.
Pour s'évader, on peut aller n'importe où.
We are going to look for accommodation anywhere in Spain.
Nous allons chercher un logement n'importe où en Espagne.

Finally, use n'importe qui to mean "anyone." It can act as the subject or object of your sentence.

Anyone can rent this accommodation.
N'importe qui peut louer ce logement.
I can travel with anyone.
Je peux voyager avec n'importe qui.
