Questions & Answers about Pajassako lasinpuhaltaja työskentelee?
Why is -ko attached to pajassa instead of the verb?
This is contrastive focus fronting. Normally, a yes/no question puts the verb first with the clitic (Työskenteleekö...?). By putting pajassa (in the workshop) at the front and adding -ko, you are specifically verifying the location, not the action. It's like asking "Is it in the workshop that...?"
Why is the first part of lasinpuhaltaja in the genitive case (lasin)?
When building a compound word out of an action's target and its doer, the target often takes the genitive case. Here, the person is a puhaltaja (blower) of lasi (glass). Therefore, lasi takes the genitive -n to become lasinpuhaltaja.
Why use -ko instead of -kö on Pajassako?
This is a quick reminder of vowel harmony rules. The clitic attaches directly to pajassa, which only contains back vowels (a). Because there are no front vowels (y, ä, ö) in the base word, the ending must use the back vowel equivalent, making it -ko.
Could I use tekee töitä instead of työskentelee in this sentence?
